During the growing season of 2019, East Devon Council are trialling the use of robot mowers. This will allow them to assess their potential to cut operating costs. As well as freeing up staff for other skilled jobs while being able to maintain and improve the quality and cut of the grass.
The council has purchased and installed three different robotic mowers models at three different sites. Allhallows Honiton installed Belrobotics BigMow – supplied by us, while Manor Gardens Exmouth and Withycombe Pitches Exmouth are trialling two Husqvarna Automowers and two Ambrogio Mowers.
The use of BigMow will improve the quality of the grass due to it being cut continuously with only a small amount being cut at a time. Frequent cuttings mulch the lawn and help fertilise it on top of suppressing weeds.
When the trial is finished, the council will be looking at the potential to roll out more robot mowers across the district, subject to how they perform. Keep an eye on our social media for updates on how Big Mow is getting on!
