  • Gleneagles make the switch to automated maintenance

Early April saw an install at one of the United Kingdom’s top golf resorts, Gleneagles. Hosts to a number of major golf tournaments such as the 2014 Ryder cup and they will be hosting the 2019 Solheim Cup. The AMS engineers set up the automated maintenance system with little to no disruption to the facility. Installed into Gleneagles beautiful driving range facility, the automated system includes the Belrobotics BigMow robotic mower. As well as the ‘Ball Picker’ ball collector robot, which works in conjunction with the AMS ball return sytem responsible for the ball washing and transportation back to the dispenser . Since installing, they have found that Ball Picker has significantly reduced the amount of manpower needed to collect balls. The grass itself is in better condition as there is no heavy machinery involved. Ball Picker has become so convenient for them that they are considering installing a second one to maximise its capabilities. Be sure to keep an eye on our social media pages for updates on how Gleneagles get on with the systems over the coming season.

  • East Devon Council trial BigMow

During the growing season of 2019, East Devon Council are trialling the use of robot mowers. This will allow them to assess their potential to cut operating costs. As well as freeing up staff for other skilled jobs while being able to maintain and improve the quality and cut of the grass. The council has purchased and installed three different robotic mowers models at three different sites. Allhallows Honiton installed Belrobotics BigMow – supplied by us, while Manor Gardens Exmouth and Withycombe Pitches Exmouth are trialling two Husqvarna Automowers and two Ambrogio Mowers. The use of BigMow will improve the quality of the grass due to it being cut continuously with only a small amount being cut at a time. Frequent cuttings mulch the lawn and help fertilise it on top of suppressing weeds. When the trial is finished, the council will be looking at the potential to roll out more robot mowers across the district, subject to how they perform. Keep an eye on our social media for updates on how Big Mow is getting on!

  • AMS customers praise robots for improved turf health

Golf clubs and sports pitches across the UK have seen improved turf health with AMS’s robot technology. Clients both old and new have given their feedback on the significant differences and improvements it has made to their outfields and maintenance methods. First to give their input is one of AMS’s oldest customers the China Fleet Country Club, Dean Bennett the general manager had this to say; “China Fleet Country Club installed the range robots over 5 years ago, in this time we have seen significant improvements in the efficiency in ball replenishment and service as well as a reduction in man hours required to collect balls. We have also seen great improvements in the condition of the outfield as heavy machinery isn’t required any longer.” The positive assessment of the robotic system highlights how successfully it has integrated into their workforce and is the reason it continues to work perfectly for them and their outfield. As one of AMS’s initial customers China Fleet has been utilising the older Belrobotics Classic Line, this includes the robot ball collector BallPicker along with its sister the BigMow robotic mower. For ball washing and transportation back to the dispenser they are utilising AMS’s automated ball wash and return system.  Key benefits for golf facilities employing robot technology is better ball management resulting in time and cost savings. Improved turf health due to the robot’s lightweight design, minimising its impact on the outfield. Thus, eliminating the occurrence of soil compaction caused by traditional heavy ball collecting and mowing equipment.  Steve Tebbutt, the director at Fernie Fields Football Club was second to comment on how robotic mowing has been working for them;  “We have been highly delighted with the system since installation last August. Throughout the season it has performed beyond our expectation as a replacement for a traditional man and machine. The pitch is in much better condition and the support from Automated Managed Services has been absolutely brilliant.”  Fernie Fields were one of the first football pitches to take on the new Big Mow connected line as a mowing alternative and because it has worked so well for them, they are planning on taking on another BigMow for their training pitch.   AMS’s mowing maintenance packages includes either the Belrobotics BigMow or ParcMow robotic mowers and is designed for large green spaces such as sport pitches. The robotic mowers are a lightweight, quiet, cost and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional ride-on mowers. They constantly mow and finely mulch clippings to promote healthy turf, leaving no green waste to collect or remove. Next to give their evaluation was Colin Jenkins from Grimsby Golf Club. They have had the system installed for several years.  “I am absolutely delighted with my automated range system. It allows my maintenance team to concentrate on the presentation of the range, rather than the messy expensive business of collecting range balls. The outfield is in much better condition than it was when we picked up using a traditional picker.”  The robots have been a great success for Grimbsy Golf Club and has allowed them to focus their efforts on other aspects of running the facility. In conclusion, it is clear that the feedback regarding the condition of the outfield considerably favours the robots over the traditional man and machine. This coupled with the cost and time savings, means the AMS robotic system look set to continue to be the most efficient and sustainable choice for any forward-thinking modern facility.

  • Belrobotics signs distribution renewal with AMS Robotics

Earlier last week, Belrobotics CEO Emmanuel Bois d’Enghien visited AMS Robotics HQ to renew contracts, naming AMS Robotics as their exclusive UK distributor for the next five years. AMS Robotics had already been the UK distributor for the past six years, incorporating the robot technology into their own automated maintenance solution.  Together AMS Robotics and the Belrobotics brand have been experiencing growth year on year. With the recent release of the new connected line models and the upgrade in technology – it is only set to continue. The new models are more robust, quieter and simpler to maintain. The connected line also comes with an app for your smartphone, GPS mapping, maintenance history and a web portal for the operator to manage.  Recent AMS installations include the driving range at Golf Kingdom based in Romford, who will be utilising the new connected line. Not to mention many of AMS’s current sites have upgraded their original classic line machines to the new spec and have really began to experience the benefits the new technology has to offer. This coupled with the support offered by AMS makes the already simple solution to managing your green area even simpler.   Throughout the visit several group meetings were held in which discussions were based around what direction AMS should be taking the business in the future in order to make the most of the huge potential growth the UK market has to offer. The forecast graph that was presented indicated that the UK has so far and could potentially continue to experience the most growth out of all distributing countries worldwide.

  • Golf Kingdom install AMS maintenance system

AMS Robotics has recently installed two BigMow’s, two BallPickers and the Ball Wash and Return System in driving range at Kingdom based in Essex. Initial training was provided by the AMS team, the enthusiasm and dedication from staff, as they became more familiar with what would be needed from them, ensured the full benefits of the system was ach ived. To start off with the robots had only been set to cut the grass and collect the range balls on the bottom half of the range. The first picture below shows the difference after only one weekend between the area the robots have been working on compared to the area they hadn’t. Over time the grass will become healthier as small grass clippings fertilise the ground, reducing the overall need for chemical fertilisers. Soil compaction is eliminated, due to the lightweight robots allowing for stronger grass thanks to better root growth. To ensure the efficiency of the robots drone footage was taken to help see the number of balls on the range and how the BallPicker’s collection should be scheduled. The Ball Picker is equipped with a 300-ball container. When the container is full, the Ball Picker returns to base to unload its balls and in a few seconds, the balls are emptied into the retrieval channel and can then be routed to a cleaner and a ball dispenser. Check our Golf Kingdom video below for a demonstration on how the ball management system works. Overall, all staff at Golf Kingdom praised the robots and emphasised how helpful it has been not having to go and manually collect the balls and cut the grass. It has given them time to focus on other aspects of getting the range ready for its customers.
