  • When should I stop my robotic mower in winter?

When should I stop my robotic mower in winter? This a common question for many of our Belrobotic robot mower users. Knowing exactly when to stop mowing in winter can prove difficult with the ever-changing weather patterns. This article explains how Belrobotic robot mowers can help determine when to continue or stop mowing your lawn or green space during the winter months. The short answer The short answer to when to put your robot away for winter storage is when the grass has stopped growing. This tends to happen when the nights become frosty, however, when this will occur all depends on where in the UK you’re located. Those further north, for instance, will stop cutting their grass a little earlier than those in the south. Generally, the advice is to stop mowing in October and start again in March, but this isn’t set in stone.  Automate your mowing schedule Belrobotics commercial robotic mowers BigMow and ParcMow provide an automated turf care solution for areas up to 75,000m2. With the Belrobotics smartphone app, a mowing schedule can be set. In more adverse weather conditions with the exception of snow, you simply reduce the time the robot is out working, resulting in the grass being cut to two or three times a week. This benefits the overall turf health as the robotic mowers cut a very small amount each time. It’s lightweight in comparison to traditional mowers Often when traditional mowing methods are used, the grass over winter gets limited management, and in many cases, cutting is not an option due to the weight of the machinery. However, this is not the case with robotic mowers. The BigMow’s and ParcMow’s lightweight design imposes no stress on the grass minimising the risk of soil compaction usually associated with heavy traditional ride-on mowers. In less wet weather conditions, you can keep the mower running continuously, enabling the green space to be mowed up to five times per week. Regular mowing improves turf health This manicure-style mulching technique results in the tiny grass clippings fertilising the soil in a 100% ecological way, allowing the sward to stay thick and healthy throughout the colder months, ready for spring. Once the warmer weather does start, a regular mowing period of a few weeks will result in a denser sward, better soil anchoring and strengthened sowing ability. Along with a decrease in the development of weeds, moss and the need for chemical fertilisers in the long term. These are all factors that help in the overall turf’s defence against the cold and wet winter weather. Robot mower detects the grass height There’s no need to wait till spring to begin using a robotic mower. Beginning your robotic mowing during the winter season is arguably the best way to get ahead of the curve, in improving your overall turf health. One of the key benefits is the robotic mowers ability to detect grass height. With unpredictable growth patterns due to warmer winters, it can be difficult for grounds care staff to determine when to continue or stop cutting the grass. With the AMS robotic mowing system, the mower will go out but if the grass has not grown to the programmed cutting height, it simply won’t be cut. Therefore, once the bad weather does set in, the turf quality and the ground beneath it will already be on it’s way to improved health, with no damage from heavy machinery. Advantages of automated mowing in winter Only cuts the grass if it grows to the programmed cutting height. Lightweight design imposes no stress to the grass Smartphone app to programme mowing schedules Improved grass health, more resilient in the harsher winter weather Whether you want to combat unpredictable growth rates of the milder winter weather or you want to get in good preparation for the spring. The earlier you make the switch to robotic mowing during the winter season, the sooner you can reap the benefits. • AMS is all set and ready to go for 2023

AMS Robotics is back in full swing after a much-needed Christmas break following a challenging but busy year 2022 was one of the busiest yet and 2023 is set to be the same. This year we plan on attending a variety of events including Saltex, Bigga’s BTME, ISBA (schools bursars show), and the Festival of Turf. On top of this, our technology is improving, our dealer network is growing and our audiences are expanding. AMS Dealer Update At the beginning of last year, AMS began building a dealer network with Andy appointed as a dealer manager. The dealer network has grown and we now have half a dozen of main dealers and several sub-dealers. Our main dealers are learning how to navigate the robots and growing in confidence when it comes to selling and installing the robots. Our dealers have made a great effort with marketing and branching out to new clients with demo offers and trial periods. They have been involved in training with us at the office and made a great effort to join us at trade shows and demo days in order to build as much knowledge as they can so they are fully prepared for the upcoming growing season. New Technolgy This spring we await the introduction of the new technology AMS and the industry as a whole have been waiting for. Belrobotics have now released WISENAV which is an update that will now allow the robots to run without a perimeter wire installed around the working area. This will now allow us to expand into mowing much larger areas such as golf course fairways. WIESNAV holds many features such as pattern mowing, increased performance, centimeter accuracy, more sustainable mowing, remote configuration, and most importantly – mowing without a wire. New Audiences As our technology broadens, so will our customer base. Belrobotics WISENAV wireless update has given us the opportunity to begin projects that we were unable to carry out when a wire was needed. For example, we have been able to begin our test demos on golf courses. This will aim to save golf clubs up to 150K a year when comparing the costs of traditional mowing methods. Polo clubs are the second new target audience we are now able to branch out towards. When a perimeter wire was required, it wasn’t a viable solution for Polo Clubs as there were dangers of damaging the wire/horses feet. Now there is no longer a need for the wire. We currently have several successful polo club demos on the go with all looking to purchase a robot for their pitches. A really positive start to 2023.

  • How robotic mowing can best help reduce moles and weed growth?

Are you a groundsman, greenkeeper or gardener? If you’ve ever had your lawn or green space overrun with mole tunnels, I’m sure you can agree it’s not cute. This article explains how robotic mowing can help reduce moles and weed growth. With the advent of robot mowers being increasingly used to maintain lawns and gardens with minimal effort. These automated machines offer a range of benefits over traditional lawn mowers, including reduced noise pollution, lower fuel consumption, and improved lawn health. Robot mowers disrupt moles’ food supply In some instances moles can be a gardener’s friend, with their healthy appetite for insect larvae and natural aeration techniques, they can equally wreak havoc too. Moles are a common problem, especially for individuals with large grounds and soft going. These small, burrowing animals can create unsightly mounds of dirt and damage the roots of grass and plants. Traditional methods of mole control, such as traps or poisons, can be costly and time-consuming. However, robotic mowers can provide a more effective and environmentally-friendly solution. Robotic mowers operate by continuously cutting the grass, which can help to disrupt the moles’ food supply and discourage them from remaining in the area. Additionally, because robotic mowers operate autonomously, they can cover large areas of the lawn consistently and thoroughly. This means that any mole activity is likely to be spotted and addressed quickly, reducing the potential for damage to the lawn. Robot mowers control weeds through regular cutting Weed growth is another common issue that many landowners face. Weeds can compete with grass and plants for nutrients and water, making it difficult to maintain a healthy lawn or garden. Traditional methods of weed control, such as pulling weeds by hand or using herbicides, can be time-consuming and potentially harmful to the environment. However, robotic mowers can offer a more natural solution. Since robotic mowers operate on a regular schedule, they can help to keep grass at an even height, which can reduce the potential for weeds to take hold. Additionally, the constant cutting action of the mower can help to prevent weed growth by removing the top portion of the weed and preventing it from seeding. Over time, this can lead to a significant reduction in the number of weeds in the lawn or garden. Robot mowers can save you time and money In addition to these benefits, robotic mowers also offer a range of other advantages over traditional lawn mowers. For example, because they are electrically powered, they emit far less noise and pollution than gas-powered mowers. They also require minimal maintenance and can be programmed to operate on a regular schedule, freeing up time for other tasks. In conclusion, robotic mowers can be an excellent solution for landowners looking to control moles and weed growth in their lawns or gardens. By providing consistent and thorough coverage, these machines can help to disrupt mole activity and prevent weed growth naturally and efficiently. Additionally, they offer a range of other benefits over traditional lawn mowers, making them an excellent investment for any landowner looking to maintain a healthy and beautiful lawn.

  • Are robotic lawn mowers worth it?

Are robotic lawn mowers worth it? Do you have a large lawn area that needs mowing? This article will explain the advantages of commercial robotic mowers and how they can benefit your large green space. Hassle-free mowing – (Pros) It’s fair to say that most people do not get excited about the chore of lawn mowing. Keeping your lawn healthy can be a lot of hard work for many homeowners, especially if you have a particularly large green space that needs maintenance. Therefore it comes as no surprise, that robotic mowers are becoming increasingly popular. So whether it’s to spend more time with the family, or give you or your gardener more time to spend elsewhere in the garden. Robotic mowers offer the perfect solution to your grass cutting needs. A beautifully manicured garden Simply put robotic mowers are the best thing that can happen to your lawn. After using a robotic lawn mower for a couple of months, you’re sure to notice the difference between your lawn and your neighbours. Traditional lawn mowers are used less frequently and tend to create more stress on the grass when mowing. You also might end up trimming too short, leaving lumps of clippings on the lawn. In comparison, robotic lawn mowers cut your lawn more frequently, the manicure mulch technique also helps promote healthy grass and an amazing appearance. The grass clippings are so short you will never need to rake the, they fall to the soil and fertilise your lawn naturally. Belrobotics robot mowers’ daily mowing boosts the density of grass blades and effectively prevents the propagation of weeds. An easy-to-program scheduler means it can work to your schedule. Robotic mowers can offer flexibility if grass length is a matter of personal taste. For instance, our range of Belrobotics mowers lets you adjust the cutting height to your favourite length via the smartphone app. Whether you have a simple lawn or a complex multi-layered one with flowerbeds, rough terrain or slopes, a Belrobotics robotic mower will help you achieve perfection. Better coverage than smaller robots If you have ever considered robotic mowing for your large garden. You may have felt restricted by the limited coverage offered by smaller robots. With that said our range of Belrobotics automowers are not your typical robotic mower. They are a large format automated concept that caters for large gardens and green spaces greater than 5,000 sqm. For instance, the single BigMow robotic mower can cover up to 75,0000 sqm. Saves money, time and labour Whether you’re a grounds manager or a homeowner, you could make potential cost savings of between 10%-50%. Once the perimeter wire is set up or the designated area is plotted using GPS (wireless mowing), the mower is ready to do its thing. You’ll save money you otherwise would have spent on a landscaping company. If your commercial facility, it will free up grounds care staff or maintenance personnel to focus on other important tasks. Saves energy and is eco-friendly Consumes 90% less energy and emits 10 times less CO2 than traditional ride on mowers. Tackles uneven lawns & large spaces Uphill and downhill, Belrobotics large-format mowers feel at home. Its advanced technology allows it to tackle inclines of between 30% to 45%. Safe all-weather design Robotic mowers come with a variety of safety features, Belrobotics mowers in particular are housed in a protective shield, the mower blades will also recoil back and the blades stop spinning immediately if the robot gets lifted off the ground. The robotic mowers are waterproof and happy to be outside even in wet weather conditions. Self charging Robotic mowers tend to be self-charging and will automatically return to their charging station when required, so no need to worry about changing batteries or plugging it in. Minimal noise when mowing Gas-powered mowers can get as loud as 100dB and require ear protection. Such noise can propagate as far as 1km, making summer days less relaxing. Robotic mowers are so quiet you can operate them during the night so you can enjoy your garden during the day. Strip Pattern Mowing For a long time, robotic mowers could only give an even cut all around the lawn. Leaving an entirely levelled trim, which can sometimes look boring aesthetically. With the advent of GPS RTK technology , Belrobotics mowers now offer strip pattern mowing.
